NOH8

Have you seen this logo?

It was a Saturday morning when I saw in my Tumblr this logo painted on a man’s cheek.
The man has a duct tape covering his mouth and the shot was beautifully done. I immediately googled “NOH8” and saw a website with 4,750 images with similar execution.

NOH8 (pronounced as “no hate”) campaign is a photographic silent protest initiated by a famous celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8.
Proposition 8, passed in November 4, 2008 in the state of California, amends the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. This event has induced a burning rage within the GBLT community resulting to creation of different political and protest organization, one of which is NOH8 campaign.
The campaign features photos of subjects with “NOH8” painted on one cheek and duct tape over their mouth which symbolizes voices being silenced by the Proposition 8 and similar law in other countries.

This is participated by different kinds of people – gays, lesbians, and straights who support freedom and equality.

P.S. This reminds me of the Project Headshot Clinic.
