Tuol Sleng

The first building is solely for torture rooms.

And this is how it was used.
When the prison was liberated in 1979, 7 final victims were left, literally on their bed.

The metal box was used for pooing and peeing.
The metal rod was used to immobilize the feet.

How???

Me, Alley and Tra

These jars and bars were also used to torture the detainees.

There are approximately 14,000 prisoners held in this prison and only 12 survived.
The recovered pictures were also displayed in some of the rooms.

This is Pol Pot.
He was the leader of the CPK or the Communist Party of Kampuchea.
This party is the responsible for Khmer Rouge and the genocide that happened in Tuol Sleng.

I can hardly look at the pictures. They are too heavy and devastating for me.

This is how they took the pictures of each prisoner. Sinong OC?

Dep, Tra and Alley

All classrooms were literally turned into cells.

Some cells are made by brick. Some are made by wood.

Blood stains are still intact.

One of the survivors of Tuol Sleng painted his experiences inside the prison that depicted the exact procedures of how the CPK operates in the prison.

What really happened in Tuol Sleng?
In 1975, when the government was successfully taken over by the CPK, they arrested all who they accused as "traitors". These included soldiers, military leaders, civil servants (of the Republic Government) and some civilians like the foreigners and minority groups.

They were forced to confess to their "crimes" through torturing and afterwards, they were executed.

If you're visiting Tuol Sleng, bring with you a brave heart and an open mind. :)
